Prayer without action is just empty words. If we pray to God to end gun violence but refuse to do anything about it, we are just speaking into the air. Pope Francis said it best when he said, "We pray for hungry people and then we feed them." We pray and then we do, that's how it works.
Setting intentions allows us to live our lives with purpose and helps us become more present with ourselves and our relationships.
Both prayer and meditation remind us to be grateful for all the blessings in our lives. Sometimes these can be hard to see; other times, these blessings are very present.
War is failure. As Christians, we should look upon war as repugnant as it stands in direct opposition to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. But, at the same time we are called to pray for those prosecuting this war that they follow the rules of war and protect civilians.
But our prayers need to be more than a laundry list of things we need and people for whom we wish to pray.
