Tag Christmas

The light of Christ does not erase the darkness all at once. John is honest about that. But the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness does not overcome it. Not because the darkness isn’t real, but because it is not ultimate.

Jesus' story redeems humanity's story, providing hope amid loss and, ultimately, liberation. The story of the incarnation, God becoming human, is a story of power manifested in love and humility. This is a story of joy mingled with loss.

This is the heart and essence of the Christmas story; God poured God's own self into human form. The eternal Word of God – God's proactive agent in all of creation, even life itself, in a paradoxical condescension took form as a baby of the humblest origins.

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”

We cannot simply take that light with us; we have to take it with us and share it with others so that the light spreads and the warmth of God's love spreads to everyone.

The story we have heard this morning is a story about how God will protect those he loves, and it is also a story about faithfulness to what God is asking us to do.

Pass that light along to another to brighten their day and illumine their path.
